Why we chose Rick Steves Tours

Hello, we are Louise & Lisa. For many years, we both dreamt of traveling to Europe and finally made the decision to visit Italy given that one of us had grandparents who grew up there. Now we were faced with the daunting task of planning the trip… making hotel reservations, arranging transportation and figuring out what to see and how to see it. We had watched and enjoyed Rick Steves travel shows on PBS for many years and knew that his style of traveling was exactly what we had in mind but had no idea that he offered tours until a world-traveling aunt recommended them. We went to his site and read about the Best of Italy in 17 Days Tour… it was exactly the trip we had imagined. Suddenly, everything became so simple. We booked the trip, made our plane reservations, read some of his Italian travel books, listened to a few of his audio tours and scoured his site. They contained a wealth of well-organized and useful information and tips. We paid special attention to Rick’s packing tips and purchased two of his backpack travel bags, one with wheels. This one had less storage space but allowed us to piggyback the bag without wheels when wheeling was an option. We also bought the travel cubes which made packing much easier. We created a spreadsheet filled with the places we wanted to visit on our own and even made dinner reservations at restaurants recommended in his books for all of our non-group dinners. Once we signed up, we were kept well-informed with instructions and our questions were answered quickly.

  • Plenty of time on our own to explore
